No answer.
A pipe burst. Nobody picked up, so they called the next company. Layla answers your after-hours calls, so that job stays yours.
We tried it ourselves.
On Sunday, Oct 18, we called five home-service companies around Atlanta. Not one of the five calls reached a person.
How Layla handles a call.

- Layla Thanks for calling. You’ve reached the after-hours line. This is Layla, the virtual assistant. Are you calling about a repair, an emergency, or to schedule service?
- Caller Hi, yeah. My AC stopped cooling. It’s just blowing warm air. Can somebody come out tomorrow?
- Layla Oh no, that’s no fun on a night like this. I can get you booked for tomorrow morning. First, may I have your name?
- Caller Dana. Dana Brooks.
- Layla Thank you, Dana. What’s the best phone number to reach you? I’ll read it back to be sure I have it right.
- Caller 404-555-0142.
- Layla Let me read that back. 404-555-0142. Is that correct?
- Caller Yes, that’s right.
- Layla Thank you. What’s the address where the AC needs service? Just the street and town is fine to start.
- Caller 1240 Maple Street in Decatur.
- Layla Got it. 1240 Maple Street in Decatur. Can you tell me, is the system running at all, or is it just blowing warm air when it turns on?
- Caller It’s running, the fan’s on. It’s just not cold.
- Layla Thank you. One more quick question. What’s the temperature inside right now, if you know? And is anyone in the home elderly, a baby or young child, or has a medical condition? That helps us set priority.
- Caller It’s about 80 in here. It’s just me and my husband. We’re fine.
- Layla Thank you, Dana. The next opening is Monday, October 19th, between 8 and 10 in the morning. Does that work for you?
- Caller Yes, that works great.
- Layla Perfect. You’re booked for Monday, October 19th, between 8 and 10 AM. Could I have your email address so I can send your confirmation? Please spell it for me.
- Caller D-A-N-A at example.com.
- Layla Thank you. Just to confirm, that’s D-A-N-A at example.com. Is that right?
- Caller Yes, that’s right.
- Layla Thank you, Dana. I’m sending your confirmation to that email now. It will have your arrival window, address, what to expect, and how to reschedule if you need to. The technician will call about 30 minutes before arriving.
- Layla Here’s what I have. Dana Brooks, 404-555-0142, at 1240 Maple Street in Decatur. The AC is running but blowing warm air, about 80 degrees inside, and no one with special needs in the home. You’re booked for Monday, October 19th, between 8 and 10 AM. Did I get all that right?
- Caller Yep, that’s everything.
- Layla Thanks for calling. Take care.
